The Marrs Five
Ouie Di Douie / Remember Those Days - 7" Amato - 1965

The Marrs Five's oddly named 'Ouie Di Douie' is about as bottom-of-the-barrel as it gets these days. Likely released in early 1965 (though some internet pages list it as early as 1962), the goofy frat rocker was nearly impossible to hear on the web until Montreal cratedigger Ben Shulman unearthed a copy and posted it to his excellent YouTube page.
What little we do know about these Torontonians comes courtesy of the RPM archives, specifically the February 8, 1965 edition, which states that "the Marrs Five, a Toronto group, released a single on the Amato label 'Ouie Di Douie', which was put on the 'Battle' on CHUM and won (that's enough to make it worth listening to) but lost the next day." Though the disc was without any sort of national distribution at the time, we are told that Regina deejay Johnny Onn gave the record a spin at CJME-AM and "found his listeners dug the sound". Three weeks later, the magazine dutifully informs us that thanks to Onn 'Ouie Di Douie' was being distributed in Manitoba and Saskatchewan by Winnipeg's Laurel records and elsewhere in Canada by the Toronto-based Canadian Music Sales.
